What goes into your apparel and from where?

We source high quality recycled and organic materials as much as possible. We also consider the shipping origin of the printed product into our sourcing equation which means sometimes we must make a trade off between choosing organic cotton versus choosing domestic sourcing. This is because overseas printing means a longer wait time and a heavier carbon footprint. All apparel sold in the North American market is printed in the USA. We continuously look for the most environmentally and socially responsible options available while keeping quality paramount in everything we sell.

Where does the name Aptos Ranch come from?

An early connection to nature formed while growing up in Aptos, California; a small northern California town sandwiched between the redwood forest-covered coastal mountains and the beach. The town’s unique geography may also have helped produce some of the world’s best professional mountain bikers and surfers. Just an hour’s drive south of Aptos lies Big Sur and Los Padres National Forest - a vast coastal mountain range home to stunning landscapes and an abundance of wild game animals such as Tule Elk, blacktail and mule deer and wild pigs. Offshore habitats support halibut, salmon, perch, rockfish, sea urchins, sharks whales, seals, sea otters, pelicans, cormorants, sanderlings and thousands of other species big and small.

The modern town of Aptos was originally called Rancho Aptos when it was a Mexican territory just prior to 1833. However, before the Spanish arrived, the area belonged to the indigenous people of the Aptos tribe who had lived since time immemorial off of the bounty that the land and sea had provided them - hunting deer, fishing steelhead, and harvesting staples like acorns, coffeeberry fruit and wild blackberries.
